Homepage of the Grand Duchy of Swabia-Lorraine in LOTE 28 Deus Vult.
Background:
The Grand Duchy of Swabia-Lorraine is located on the banks of the Rhine river, extending south into the Tyrolian Alps and the region of Lombardy. It is a member of the Holy Roman Empire, and is Roman Catholic. The predominant language is Old High German. Recently, diplomatic efforts resulted in the union of the Duchies of Swabia and Lorraine, doubling the size of the duchy and greatly increasing both its military and economic power. In historical terms, Swabia takes its name from the Suebi tribe of Celts who migrated west into modern-day Germany during the time of the Roman Republic. Swabian Dukes of the House of Hohenstaufen were heavily involved in the Holy Roman Empire, with several serving as Emperor. They also, through marriage, gained control of the Kingdom of Sicily, and several attempted to consolidate control over northern Italy, leading to political struggles and armed conflict with the Papacy and its supporters. Frederick II was excommunicated three times as a result.
