Random Thought #6:
Perfection and Athiesm.
I am an Athiest and proud of it. Discussed below is one the main reasons why I do not believe in God* or any other deity.
God insults me. The very notion of God, or any other deity, degrades me. I consider myself to be perfect (contrary to what one might think, this is not a conceited statement and will be further explained later on). The idea of a god, by definition, means that I am a less perfect being. People of all faiths accept the notion of a god seemingly without a thought for the implications of such a notion. They demean themselves by accepting the existence of a Supreme Being. They deny their own perfection.
Now, what constitutes perfection? How are we perfect? We are the product of a billion years of evolution, but that in itself does not make us perfect. We are the unchallenged masters of the Earth, but that does not make us perfect. I am not perfect because I am intelligent, nor because I have brown hair and white skin. People are not perfect because they are black, white, hispanic, or asian. They are not perfect because they are smart or stupid. They are not perfect because they are good at sports or because they are Christian, Jewish, Islamic, or Athiest. We are perfect because of the one thing that makes us different from any other species on the planet: We can think. We can reason. We are not creatures of instinct, we are creatures of logic. I can rationalize my existence, I can understand. That is perfection. Not being smart, or being white, or being an Athiest, but being able to think and understand my surroundings, my universe, and my existence.
I am perfect, and no God or deity can take that away from me. Don't demean yourself by blindly accepting that you are anything but perfect.
-Zachary I. Thanks for taking the time read this. I hope it was enlightening and entertaining.
*Any time I use the capitalized word "God," I am referring to the Judeo-Christian god Yahweh. The use of the uncapitalized word "god" is a general term for the deities of all faiths.
